The other day, a friend told me that he was considering getting a deck built in his backyard by Utah deck builders.  He had to decide between a composite and wood deck Utah company  and wanted my opinion.  Truthfully, I told him that I preferred composite decking.  Here is why.  Wood in and of itself is a renewable source and can last for years, yet it can become weathered and periodically needs to be re-stained and re-sealed.  Wood decking can become susceptible to dry rot, termites, and splintering.  Composite decking on the other hand is comprised of a mixture of wood and plastic fibers.  Composite decking definitely lasts longer and requires less care.  Even though composite decking costs more initially, the lower cost of fence maintenance gives it a substantial advantage over wood decking.  Additionally, composite decking is available in many colors and textures, and never requires staining or sealing.  It is resistant to insects, rotting, and can last over 30 years.  I recently read an article about a composite decking manufacturer (Trex Decking) that indicated that it obtains plastic made in its deck from millions of plastic shopping bags, as well as wood from mill waste, wood pallets, and sawdust.  In other words, a composite deck Utah company can be quite environmentally attractive.
